I have had a significant number of e-mails recently regarding the upcoming 2023 volleyball season, so I wanted just make a quick post with some information. So, here it is…
I plan to start having open gyms as soon as basketball season is over in March. 540 Volleyball Academy is jam packed, so finding court time is very difficult. We will have to be very flexible as to when we have them until their travel season comes to an end.
I am giving serious consideration to holding tryouts in May for the high school teams. If I do this, there will still be open gyms for everyone until practice officially starts in July.
We are still undecided as to how we are going to handle the middle school team. I do not necessarily want to have tryouts, but we may have to just based on the number of girls coming out.
Practices will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:30-7:30 at 540 for the girls teams. As we get into the season, my goal will be to have at least two practices each week with no more than two matches per week. There will obviously be weeks where this won’t be possible, but I will do my best to keep it this way.
We will be having a boys team again and they will most likely practice three days a week along with the girls at 540 if we can get a coach locked on. We have a returning coach, but her work hours interfere with some of the practices if we keep them on the Monday, Tuesday, Thursday schedule. I am not sure if there will be more matches for them this season, but there will definitely be more court time and they will participate in the Endless Summer and HSPN tournaments.
All teams will be competing in the HSPN East Coast Nationals in Gatlinburg, TN from Sept 26th-29th.
Unless we get significant sponsorships this season, the registration fees will most likely be $400 for the season. This is an all-inclusive cost for the athletes. The only additional costs would be for optional spirit wear.
The season will end on October 30th with a family fun night at 540 followed by an end of season banquet approximately a week later.
